“When we launched the Yahoo News Digest in January for iPhone users in the United States and United Kingdom, our goal was to ensure that our audience is ‘in the know’ of the top news and information in the shortest amount of time, all while giving them a sense of completion,” wrote D’Aloisio, now product manager for Yahoo News Digest, on the company blog. The service was initially launched earlier this year, based on the startup Summly that was created by British teenager Nick D’Aloisio. Yahoo acquired Summly last year. Using algorithmic and human curation, Yahoo News Digest provides news round-ups twice a day, each story presented with a collection of articles, maps, Wikipedia entries, videos and photos. The company has also made the iOS version available for all users worldwide by adding Canadian and International editions (it was originally only available to iOS device users based in the United States or United Kingdom). You can also edit your astrological sign in the daily horoscope section.Last week, Yahoo announced the launch of its News Digest app for Android devices. Go to your Sports card and tap on the gear icon to set or remove your favorites. Want to pick your favorite sports team? Now, you can do it within the “Yahoo Today” section. By clicking on the gear icon on the top left corner, you will see a new “Edit Yahoo Today” option for you to pick and choose what you’d like to see, including News Digest, Sports, Weather, Horoscope, Finance, Screen and Flickr. We even added the much-requested ability to sort and select the type of content in your “Today” section to make it even more personalized. Now, you can view and track shipped packages in the “Yahoo Today” section of the app from sites including Amazon, eBay, Zappos, Target, Best Buy, and more.
